What is Lip Reduction?
Some people feel that their lips are too thick and want to make them smaller. Lip reduction is relatively simple and thriving in the hands of a careful plastic surgeon, and most people who care a lot about their lips decide to do this surgery.
Some boys and girls in their teens may be upset by the size of their lips, but we advise them to wait until they are at least 20 years old. Until then, due to puberty, their lips may become normal after this period.
Sometimes a person may be concerned about the size of his or her lips. However, the volume of the lips is not oversize, due to the size of the jaw or the position of the teeth that have made lips look more voluminous and more extensive than usual, and, person, correcting the patient’s jaw or teeth will fix the problem of lips protrusion.
And another reason for large lips is a previous overt augmentation with permanent silicone, making the person uncomfortable with the shape of her/his lips.

Who is a Good Candidate?
You are a good candidate for lip reduction if:
• You have injected too much gel, and your lips got an unusual shape.
• You naturally have huge lips.
• If your lips do not fit in with the rest of your face due to their size.
The Procedure
Usually, patients and applicants who have lip reduction surgery will see that this type of surgery is simple. Mostly, patients are treated under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. If several simultaneous operations are required to achieve the desired result, the patient may be placed under general anesthesia at the physician’s discretion. Still, in most cases, the operation is performed under local anesthesia. After anesthesia drugs are injected, and the patient’s lips are ready to operate, the surgeon makes horizontal incisions inside the lips. Extra fat and tissue are then removed by the surgeon, who uses specific techniques for doing this. This surgery is done by considering the balance, improving the appearance, alignment, and care not to damage other parts of the face. After the extra tissue has been removed from the lips and the desired shape is created, the surgeon sutures the area, and the job is done.
Recovery
Pain, swelling, or slight bruising on the lips is normal after surgery. In the days after surgery, the patient needs to take painkillers. Also, using an ice pack (cold compress) can significantly help the healing process. However, all of these must be prescribed by your doctor, and you do not have permission to act by your preferences. You can go to work one week after lip reduction, and the final result of the operation will be seen after 2 to 3 months.
Possible Complications
Lip reduction surgery, like any other surgery, has its complications and side effects. These complications include:
- • Pain
- • Swelling
- • Bruising
- • Redness of the operated area
- • Infection
- • Allergic reaction to the anesthetic
